The presentation of results

  • Noematics REFLEXION displays the results of your request as a list of documents, with attached information, sorted by descending relevance.
  • The number of documents matching your request is displayed at the top of the list.
  • The result list is displayed by pages. The number of results displayed on each page may be set through the Advanced Search form.

Information about documents: display options

For each listed document, the available data are (subject to modificatios by your site or intranet Adminstrator):
  • The document title
  • An abstract of the document (a few lines at the beginning)
  • The document size in kilobytes
  • The document path from the web site root If the document is contained in a field of a table of a database, the path is replaced by: "[DB]/database_name/table_name/field_name"
  • The document last modification date

Sorting results by relevance

  • The result list is sorted according to a relevance score which, for each document, takes into account:
    • the number of occurrences of your keywords in the document
    • the number of occurrences of your keywords in the whole set of indexed documents
    • the relative weight of the document in the whole set
    • the relative weight of the language of the document in the whole set
  • This relevance score is computed over a relative scale of values : 100 is the maximum relevance, 1 the minimum.
  • If the number of results of a request is greater than a certain value, defined by your site or intranet Administrator (for example 4000 documents), Noematics REFLEXION will let you know that it will not compute the relevance scale (which may take too long and would not be very significant) but instead will sort results by document dates, from the most recent down.

Display of individual documents

  • You may display a document on your screen just by clicking on its title in the result list.
  • The display of Microsoft Office documents requires that the corresponding software is installed into your computer. The display of PDF documents only requires installation into your computer of a PDF viewer like Acrobat Reader (free download from one of the Adobe web sites.
  • The display of ASCII text, HTML or ASP documents appears with automatic highlighting of your keywords.

Navigation through the result list

  • On each result page, two navigation bars (top and bottom) allows for simple click navigation through the result list.
